Using your Teaching Screen (Smartboard) in extended desktop mode, means you effectively have two screens. Your PC screen is your primary screen and this remains private to the teacher – the Teaching Screen acts as the extended desktop, which is where you would show or display anything you want the students to view.
Most teaching screens are designed to be used in extended desktop mode. There is a simple way of switching from one to the other - simply press Windows Key + P (at the same time)
To get this screen.
Click on the “Extend” option or move the cursor using the up or down arrows on the numeric keypad.
However – be aware your PC screen is a different resolution to your Teaching Screen so the calibration will be out and the board will need recalibrating.
Using the Extended Desktop
In order to display a video / word document / web page etc. on the extended desktop, simply click and hold the top bar of the window you wish to display on the board and drag it over to the other window. That’s it – you can use the boards touch facility to maximise the window, or drag it back to your PC window or close the window.
This is great if you are showing a film clip to the class as it will allow teachers to continue with other work whilst the class watches the clip.
Showing a PowerPoint on the Big Screen
In order to run a PowerPoint slideshow on the teaching screen , open your PowerPoint on the PC screen , click the “Slideshow” tab , and choose “Set Up Slideshow” , from the window that opens choose “2nd Monitor” from the drop down list under Slide Show Monitor – as indicated below.
